Mature Woman Book Center for Engaged Learning

In July 2008, UVU became the state's newest university. The question that follows: What kind of university is UVU?

While research is part of the institution's scholarly activity — particularly undergraduate research — UVU's primary focus is on teaching. UVU is a student-centered regional teaching university, with emphasis on "engaged learning." At UVU, this means the combination of academic and hands-on learning. In short, UVU students prepare for professional life by earning a diploma and building a resume during their college careers. This engaged learning effort reflects UVU's historical role as a place where students expand their minds and skill sets simultaneously.

In December 2008, the prestigious Carnegie Foundation honored UVU with its elective "community engaged" classification in recognition of this curricular focus and the institution's long-rooted commitment to serving the needs of the community. UVU's Center for Engaged Learning oversees a $400,000 grant program in support of these engaged learning projects. Your support of the CEL will help UVU educate students who are career-ready upon graduation, which is a critical aspect of economic development for the community, region and state.
